How long will it take my child to learn to swim?

A difficult question….there are no set times for how long it will take a child to learn how to swim.

Learning to swim takes time and each child is different and learns at a different pace. Some swimmers will move up the levels quicker than others and some will achieve skills at different rates.

Learning to swim is like learning a new language or learning to play an instrument… it takes time, patience and a lot of practice.

To help your child to become a better swimmer try and take them to the pool as often as you canso they can consolidate what they have learnt in lessons. Make it as fun as possible and watch their confidence and aquatic skills grow.

Why should we learn how to swim?

Confidence and Overcoming Obstacles

Learning to swim helps build water confidence and how to overcome obstacles with visible outcomes.

Water Safety

Water safety should be the number one reason to learn to swim. Swimming is a life skill and could save your child’s life. As children get older they want more independence & therefore need to know what to do to stay safe in the water. Swimming teaches children how to swim to the side and find a way to get out of the water.

Aquatic Breathing

Swimming teaches children aquatic breathing and how to breathe in the water therefore allowing them to enjoy swimming and be able to swim greater distances.

Health Benefits

Swimming is a great all round form of exercise.

Technique

Swimming teaches you how to swim more than just doggie paddle. It allows you to enjoy swimming and it’s benefits to it’s full extent.
